Fragmentations | Personal Work

Experimenting in the studio nearly always yields some new insights and surprises. Much of the time I discover that the idea I had in mind is much more difficult to translate into reality than I had hoped. Sometimes the possibilities are revealed with minimal friction, and an entirely new realm of creative potential is suddenly accessible.

These images were created without the aid of photoshop or other forms of digital manipulation. Instead, a few adjustments to amplify contrast and bring a little more drama to the tonal range were all that was needed to complete the surreal yet simple compositions.

By placing a flower onto a white table-top and setting a large, heavy piece of faceted glass over my subject, I found a wonderful surreal mosaic effect could be created. The variety of angles and crystalline cuts of glass include scattered air bubbles of varying sizes, making the colourful floral subjects appear as possibly submerged.
